Kathy Kirchner

After an extensive career as an occupational therapist and in disability policy, Kathy noted the rising numbers of persons wanting to “age in place” and the burgeoning public health interest in fall prevention. Kathy started working in the area of home modification consultation and in 2014 founded Accessible Home Solutions, LLC, where she specializes in individualized home modification consultation for persons of all ages and abilities.

In addition to her work with Accessible Home Solutions, LLC,  Kathy has worked with hundreds of clients and their caregivers through research studies with the Center for Equity in Aging at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, as a contractor with the D.C. Department of Housing and Community Development’s  Safe at Home program, and as a consultant for Habitat for Humanity of Metro Maryland. She has served clients of all ages as a volunteer for Rebuilding Together Montgomery County and as a lecturer for the Matter of Balance fall prevention program.

Kathy holds a BS from Ohio State University, a MA from Xavier University, and an Executive Certificate in Home Modification (ECHM) through the University of Southern California School of Gerontology.  She is also a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) through the National Association of Home Builders and has specialty interests in fall prevention and the challenges faced by persons living with dementia.

Kathy gets great personal and professional satisfaction that comes with helping clients solve complex problems.“The biggest compliment I can receive is when someone says, ‘That is the best thing we did - it kept us safe, saved us money and I never would have thought of it.’”

I really appreciate the analysis you did on our home and the detail in the report is incredibly helpful. It is so helpful to have the report as a reference of solutions tailored to our short and long-term needs, rather than a generic list of internet recommendations. We were able to share the report with an architect and we’re looking forward to making our home safer”
